Coachella, CA, events bring the desert to life year-round. From major music festivals and food celebrations to architecture tours, tennis, art, and community gatherings, the Coachella Valley offers something for locals, visitors, and weekend travelers.
Since we are now in May 2026, some of the biggest events of the year have already wrapped up. However, there are still several important dates ahead, especially for fall and winter. Use this updated guide to plan around what is still coming, look back at what already happened, and make the most of your time in the valley.
Up Next in 2026
The second half of the year still has plenty of events worth watching. These are the dates to keep on your calendar if you are planning visits, family outings, or long weekends near Coachella, CA.
Joshua Tree Music Festival
The Joshua Tree Music Festival is a family-friendly desert campout focused on music, movement, art, mindfulness, and community. The official festival site lists its spring 2026 event for May 14 to 17, and the festival also notes that it happens every May and October.
This event works well for people who want a more relaxed desert festival experience compared to the larger Indio music weekends. It is especially appealing for families, campers, and visitors who enjoy creative outdoor gatherings.
Modernism Week October
Modernism Week is scheduled for October 15 to 18, 2026. The event highlights Palm Springs architecture, design, tours, talks, and midcentury modern style. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale August 1, 2026.
This is a great event for anyone who enjoys design, historic homes, photography, or stylish desert spaces. Popular tours can sell out, so early planning is helpful.
Greater Palm Springs Pride
Greater Palm Springs Pride is scheduled for November 6 to 8, 2026, with the theme “Be Included.” The celebration includes festival activities, downtown events, entertainment, and community gatherings.
For visitors staying near Coachella, CA, this can be a good reason to plan a Palm Springs weekend. The event is known for its lively downtown atmosphere and strong community energy.
Indio International Tamale Festival
The City of Indio lists the Indio International Tamale Festival for December 5 to 6, 2026. The city also lists the Indio Tree Lighting Ceremony for December 4, making that weekend a strong option for holiday-season activities in the valley.
This is one of the area’s most recognizable food events. Visitors can enjoy tamales, vendors, entertainment, and a festive community setting close to Coachella.
Earlier in 2026
Several major Coachella Valley events have already happened this year, but they are still worth mentioning for planning. These events often return annually, so they can help readers think about future trips.
Palm Springs International Film Festival
The Palm Springs International Film Festival returned January 2 to 12, 2026, with the Film Awards taking place January 3.
This festival is a major early-year event for film lovers and awards-season followers. It is a good one to remember when planning future January visits.
BNP Paribas Open
The 2026 BNP Paribas Open took place in Indian Wells from March 1 to 15, according to the event’s official 2026 page.
This event is one of the biggest sports highlights in the region. For tennis fans, it brings world-class matches, dining, shopping, and a lively tournament atmosphere to the desert.
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival returned to the Empire Polo Club in Indio on April 10 to 12 and April 17 to 19, 2026. The official Coachella site now shows 2026 highlights and lists the 2027 festival dates as April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18.
Even after the festival ends, it remains useful for planning. Hotels, restaurants, traffic, and rental demand often change around festival weekends, so visitors should book early for future years.
Stagecoach Festival
Stagecoach 2026 took place April 24 to 26, 2026. The official Stagecoach site describes it as returning to the desert for those dates and now thanks attendees for the 2026 event.
Stagecoach is another major Indio event that affects the entire valley. Country music fans, visitors, and local businesses all feel the energy of this busy festival weekend.
Desert X Planning Note
Desert X is not a 2026 event this year. The official Desert X site says the next Coachella Valley exhibition will open October 30, 2027, and run through May 7, 2028.
That means it should not be listed as a current 2026 event. Instead, it works better as a planning-ahead note for art lovers.
How to Plan a Better Event Day
When the Coachella Valley is busy, a little planning helps. Choose one main event, then build the rest of the day around it. Add a coffee stop, lunch nearby, a mural walk, a park visit, or a relaxed dinner after the event.
For larger festivals, check traffic, parking, shuttle options, bag policies, and weather before you go. For smaller events, confirm hours and ticket availability close to your visit. Desert weather can shift from hot afternoons to cooler evenings, so water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and a light layer are all helpful.
Sample One-Day Plan
Start with coffee and a light breakfast on a patio.
Visit a local art stop, market, or mural area before the day gets too warm.
Plan lunch near your main event so you do not lose time driving across the valley.
Spend the afternoon at the event, festival, match, tour, or show.
Take a golden-hour break for photos, snacks, or a short walk.
Finish with dinner, live music, or a quiet evening outdoors.
